Oklahoma Football: 3 coaching candidates to replace Lincoln Riley
2. Bob Stoops, former Oklahoma HC
This would be a really fun storyline and even though I don’t see this as likely, it would make for a Hollywood ending for Bob Stoops.
Stepping down as head coach of Oklahoma after an 11-2 season in 2016 which ended with a Sugar Bowl win, Stoops handed the reins to Lincoln Riley. He had his offensive coordinator take over and it was a popular move at the time because he was one of the best up-and-coming coaches in the country.
How fun would it be to see Stoops replace Riley who replaced him? It would be a fantastic storyline and it would allow Stoops to play the role of hero, leading Oklahoma back to national titles when it looked like the Sooners were at rock-bottom with a sudden departure of Riley.
Stoops had a heck of a career with the Sooners, going 190-48 with a national title, 10 Big 12 titles, and five BCS or New Year’s Six bowl wins. He would have a ton of success if he did decide to come out of retirement for one last hurrah.
I don’t think Stoops is really that interested in a return, but I think Oklahoma should at least see where his head is at.
Really, Oklahoma can’t go wrong with either of the Stoops brothers.
