3. Urban Meyer, Jacksonville Jaguars HC

Back before Urban Meyer was in line to take the Ohio State head coaching job, there was a rumor that circulated that he called Notre Dame one of his dream jobs. That might still be the case.

While Meyer excelled in Columbus with the Buckeyes after he won titles with Florida, he decided to step down and focus on his health much like he did with the Gators. He ended up taking an NFL head coaching job with the Jaguars and year one in Jacksonville hasn’t gone all that well. He’s not winning many games and he was even involved in an off-field controversy involving a mystery woman.

But he says he’s happy in Jacksonville even though he’s not seeing a ton of success and that may lead to a shorter leash because, well, this isn’t college football. One or two bad seasons may be enough to fire a head coach, no matter how established they were before they got there.

If Meyer believes that he might not see success any time soon, he should absolutely take a phone call from Notre Dame and I think the Irish would be wise to at least inquire.

If Notre Dame is able to replace Brian Kelly with Meyer, that would have to be considered a massive victory for the program.
