What would it take to completely blow up the College Football Playoff picture? What would happen if chaos reigned over Championship Weekend? Let’s look.

We’ve already experienced a lot of chaos in the 2021 season. As we enter Championship Weekend, three perennial College Football Playoff contenders — Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma — have all flamed out of the discussion after failing to reach their respective conference championships.

While we haven’t quite rivaled the insanity of the 2007 campaign quite yet, there is still plenty of time for more chaos to transpire across the land. One set of data points remains to shake up the decisions of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Depending on what happens in the 10 FBS conference championship games on Friday night and over the course of Saturday, we could see things pan out in two different directions. Should all the championship games go to chalk, it will make for a relatively straightforward decision for the committee.

Any upsets, though, will throw a stick into the spokes and ruin what the committee hopes will be a smooth ride to Selection Sunday.

What would it take to shake things up to 2007 levels, though? Let’s walk through the various conference championship games and evaluate what would make for the most chaotic situation possible at the 11th hour.
