NCAAF: Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners
Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 23. Johnny Manziel
- 2012 Season stats: 3,706 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, 9 interceptions
- Worst game: 276 passing yards, 0 touchdowns, 3 interceptions
Winning the Heisman as a freshman is practically impossible. First year players rarely play and even if they do, their impact is little to none. In the case of Johnny Manziel during the 2012 season, he completely took over every game he was a part of. Well, all but one.
A midseason game against LSU seemed like an inconsequential one. Texas A&M went on that season to knock off number 12 Oklahoma by 28 points, number 17 Mississippi State by 25 points, and even number one Alabama was pushed by the wayside when A&M came to town.
But while many were already chalking up the LSU game as a win, they had something else up their sleeves. For as great as Manziel was that season, he was God awful during this game. He went 29-56 for 276 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Of course, Manziel would bounce back and wipe the floor with everyone else for the rest of the season. But as for his performance during the LSU game, he didn’t look anything like a Heisman Trophy winner.
