NCAAF: Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners
Ranking the 25 worst games of past Heisman trophy winners: 21. Andre Ware
- 1989 Season stats: 4,699 yards, 46 touchdowns, 15 interceptions
- Worst game: 247 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 3 interceptions
It was as though a lightbulb went off in the head of former Houston quarterback Andre Ware. In his first year, he managed to throw for just 996 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions. He followed that up with 2,507 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. In his final year in college, he went to another level.
In 1989, Ware threw for 4,699 yards and 46 touchdowns and easily took home the Heisman. But while he was normally great every time he stepped onto the field, he had a ton of trouble with Texas A&M. When the two lined up, Ware struggled with his completion percentage, going 28 for 52 for 247 yards. He did manage to throw one touchdown but it was as if Ware was colorblind. The 1989 Heisman winner threw three interceptions which left their fanbase despondent.
In all, Houston did finish the season with a 9-2 record but if Ware played even average that day, they could’ve had themselves a one-loss season.
