Here are three possible bowl games that Tennessee football could be headed to under first-year Vols head coach Josh Heupel.

Tennessee football is heading to their first bowl game under new head coach Josh Heupel in his first season with the team.

Wherever the Vols land, it’ll be their second bowl game appearance in five seasons. The last time Tennessee went bowling was at the end of the 2019 season when they won the Gator Bowl by one point over Indiana.

We’re taking a look at three bowl game projections for the Tennessee Volunteers and who they may be playing.

1. Music City Bowl (vs. Minnesota)

The Vols, according to CBS Sports, could be making the three-hour drive on I-40 to Nashville to compete in the Music City Bowl against Minnesota from the Big 10.

Tennessee has played Minnesota just once in program history, back in 1986. That game actually took place in Memphis as part of the 1986 Liberty Bowl game. The Vols came out on top in that one, 21-14.

In 2021, the Volunteers would be taking on a Gophers team that boasts three 500-plus yard rushers on the team, each with 100 or more carries.

The Vols have allowed just over 153 rushing yards per game, while Minnesota gains around 190 yards per game.

Tennessee would be able to control the tempo of the game and nearly neutralize Minnesota’s strongest weapon: the run game.
