This won’t be forgotten anytime soon

Mike Gundy has done a spectacular job as the Oklahoma State football coach and Cowboy fans should want him to stay in Stillwater for as long as he wants.

But Saturday’s loss is going to sting for a long time. We already mentioned that 2011 loss to Iowa State. The Cowboys beat Oklahoma after that and then a very good Stanford team to finish 12-1.

That Fiesta Bowl win took some of the pain away from Oklahoma State fans then, but in the College Football Playoff era, getting to the top four means everything. It’s the difference between being a have and a have-not.

And with the loss on Saturday, the Cowboys remained the latter, instead of having a chance to become the former.

Worst of all, Baylor could be the team to take that next step. If Alabama goes down to Georgia, and with Oregon losing, the Bears could have a shot at jumping Notre Dame and Ole Miss for the final spot.

Or there could be even more craziness and they could easily slide into No. 4 if Cincy or Michigan goes down. Baylor can sit and enjoy knowing it did all it could.
