Which college football conference has most teams going to 2021 bowl game?
1. SEC (13)
No surprise here, but the SEC led all conferences with 13 (!!) bowl-selected teams. Just in case you’re wondering, yes, that means all but one SEC team made a bowl game this year.
If you’re a Vanderbilt fan, first of all, I’m sorry. And second of all, look away.
OK, back to the teams with a pulse from the SEC which is 13/14 of them.
Alabama and Georgia are headed to the playoff after the Crimson Tide “upset” the No. 1 Bulldogs in the SEC title game and earned the top seed. Alabama will face the Group of Five’s first-ever playoff team in Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl. Georgia will face Michigan in the Orange Bowl.
Ole Miss will be the other SEC team representing the conference in the New Year’s Six, facing Big 12 champion Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. Kentucky and Arkansas both get New Year’s Day bowls and Texas A&M plays on New Year’s Eve.
LSU, Florida, and Auburn all had disappointing years but will all be bowling as well.
Here’s where all the SEC teams who made bowl games (sorry, Vanderbilt) will be playing:
- LSU (Texas Bowl) vs. Kansas State on Jan. 4
- Ole Miss (Sugar Bowl) vs. Baylor on Jan. 1
- Kentucky (Citrus Bowl) vs. Iowa on Jan. 1
- Arkansas (Outback Bowl) vs. Penn State on Jan. 1
- Georgia (Orange Bowl) vs. Michigan on Dec. 31
- Alabama (Cotton Bowl) vs. Cincinnati on Dec. 31
- Texas A&M (Gator Bowl) vs. Wake Forest on Dec. 31
- Tennessee (Music City Bowl) vs. Purdue on Dec. 30
- South Carolina (Duke’s Mayo Bowl) vs. North Carolina on Dec. 30
- Mississippi State (AutoZone Liberty Bowl) vs. Texas Tech on Dec. 28
- Auburn (Birmingham Bowl) vs. Houston on Dec. 28
- Florida (Gasparilla Bowl) vs. UCF on Dec. 23
- Missouri (Armed Forces Bowl) vs. Army on Dec. 22
Clearly the SEC is absolutely loaded. Does this list surprise you?
