Georgia football nose tackle Jordan Davis was one of the most dominant players this season, and he took home two awards Thursday night.

Georgia football is enjoying a pretty solid season. Despite their recent loss to Alabama, the Bulldogs are still 12-1 on the year and will play Michigan in the Orange Bowl for a shot at the CFP National Championship.

A big part of Georgia’s success this year was the defense. The Bulldogs unit was one of the best in the country, ranking second in total defense this year, led the nation in allowing 9.8 points per game, and had one of the best front sevens in all of football.

One of the leaders on this defense is Jordan Davis. Davis, a 6-6, 340 lb. senior from Charlotte, NC, won both the Chuck Bednarik and Outland Trophy.

Fellow Bulldog teammate Nakobe Dean took home some hardware, winning the Butkus award earlier this week.

On the year, Davis has 28 total tackles with two sacks and nine quarterback hurries. Oh, and he also has an offensive touchdown, rushing for one on senior day against Charleston-Southern.

Though he might not seem to dominate statistically, he is invaluable to the Dawg defense.

With his size, Davis is able to take two blockers per play, opening up holes for Georgia linebackers and defensive backs to get to the opposing team’s quarterbacks and running backs. He is also deceivingly quick for a big man, and can chase down a scrambling QB (ex: look up him chasing down UAB’s QB earlier this year).

The senior surprised everyone when he announced his decision to return to Georgia for his senior year rather than turning pro. This led to more Georgia juniors announcing their intentions to return to Athens for one more year to help the Dawgs win their first national title since 1980.

Davis is projected by many draft experts to be a first round NFL draft pick. With his massive size, he will be a player who can cause havoc on opposing NFL offenses.

He and his Bulldogs will take on the Big Ten champion Michigan Wolverines in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Eve, and Davis will look to add one more big award to his incredible senior year: the CFP national title.
