The best performances of the past 25 Heisman Trophy winners: 25. Eric Crouch
Although many are under the assumption that dual-threat quarterbacks are a new thing, former Nebraska signal-caller Eric Crouch was taking care of business in both aspects of the game for a long time.
If we look at just his passing yards, Crouch was beyond putrid. If his game was predicated on simply throwing the ball, he would be considered one of the worst quarterbacks of all time. He finished his Heisman winning season in 2001 after throwing for just 1,510 yards and completing only 55.6% of his passes. Now hold on, before you begin screaming at the top of your lungs that Crouch didn’t deserve the Heisman, we have to give you his rushing stats.
Crouch was a better runner than passer. He wrapped up his year have rushed for 1,115 yards and 18 touchdowns. Determining the best game he played that year is a bit tricky, mostly because none of his stats were particularly impressive in terms of passing. However, we believe we found the right one.
With Nebraska already rolling, Crouch stomped into the backyard of Missouri and did whatever he wanted. He was a bit underwhelming as a passer, finishing the game with 120 yards. However, he more than made up for it on the ground. Crouch ran all over them, going for 191 yards and two touchdowns.
The passing numbers were pretty bad but considering how great he was with his legs, we have to say that this was his best game by far that season.
