Here are three takeaways from the 122nd Army-Navy game.

The tone and tenor of this afternoon’s game were befitting the two military academies. Today was about field position and not making the critical mistake that would cost either team the game. Army was 8-0 when leading at halftime; Navy made it 8-1.

This game lived up to the maxim throw the records out when rivals play. The Navy Midshipmen (3-8) looked to have bragging rights for a year and spoil the Black Knights’ outright claim to the Commander in Chief’s Trophy. A Navy win means a three-way tie, but Army keeps the trophy.

Quarterback Christian Anderson got the scoring started with a 56-yard touchdown run. Navy answered with an 8-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tai Lavatai. Army kicked two field goals to take a 13-8 lead at the half.

Navy opened the second half with a 74-yard touchdown drive to take a 14-13 lead. The Middies took that one-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Midshipmen drove late in the fourth quarter and kicked a field goal, which was the game-winner.

The Midshipmen made a fourth-down stop with less than two minutes left to seal the game and the upset for the United States Naval Academy.

It was a slugfest at Met Life Stadium. Here are three takeaways from the 122nd playing of the Army-Navy game.
