Early Signing Day is always crazy but if Jackson State and Deion Sanders are able to flip top overall recruit Travis Hunter, it will be absolutely insane.

You never know what’s going to happen on Early Signing Day and despite the months of projections and crystal balls and all of that, things get wacky when it comes time to put pen to paper.

And wacky doesn’t even begin to describe what could wind up happening on this Early Signing Day as the No. 1 overall recruit in 2022 — Travis Hunter — could be on the verge of flipping his commitment from Florida State football to Jackson State, yes the school with Deion Sanders as the head coach.

Obviously, Hunter has been a topic of conversation throughout the 2021 season as Florida State football struggled. But the Seminoles finished the season playing better and leading into Early Signing Day, Hunter to Florida State seemed to be a go.

However, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, that’s not necessarily the case. Just in the last hour, he dropped his bombshell on Hunter possibly signing with Jackson State, not FSU.

Now, it’s official that Hunter who plays running back and defensive back will sign with Jackson State.

At 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Hunter is out of the state of Georgia and is rated as the No. 1 prospect by the 247 composite rankings, as well as 247 sports own rankings. He was offered by basically every major program but Florida State won out in the end.

But Sanders, who played for Florida State and also the Atlanta Falcons, kept Jackson State in the race as a dark horse, as he has with a number of higher-rated recruits.

However, this would be like nothing college football has ever seen. There have been great players at the FCS level but that’s normally because they have fallen through the cracks.

Elite recruits just don’t make this decision and it’s a bold move for Hunter, who is surely trying to send a message. Plus, he will get to play for one of the best cornerbacks of all time and in terms of the NFL, if you have the talent, the league doesn’t care where you played college ball.

Wiltfong did report that Florida State was still in contact with Hunter and obviously the Noles will do all they can to keep him. But man, Deion could be dealing a huge blow to Florida State football coach Mike Norvell, a man holding a job that prime probably wants.
