San Diego State and UTSA will battle tonight in the Frisco Bowl. Here’s a look at the odds and a prediction.

If you are a fan of the Group of Five, then Tuesday’s 2021 Frisco Bowl is for you as two of the best group of five teams will square off as San Diego State takes on UTSA.

UTSA is the conference USA champion and finished the regular season with a 12-1 record. San Diego State also enjoyed a resurgence under Brady Hoke. Formerly the head coach of the Aztecs, Hoke left to coach Michigan and was eventually fired.

After moving around some, Hoke found his way back to San Diego State and led the Aztecs to the Mountain West title game after an 11-1 record.

Yet, with around 20 players out, many for COVID-19, the Aztecs didn’t play well and were beaten by Utah State for the league championship. Now, they have a chance to finish with 12 wins, while UTSA can cap a nearly perfect season with a 13th win, and a bowl championship.

The 2021 Frisco Bowl could be the best bowl game yet up to this point and here are the odds, as well as a prediction and also how to watch.

2021 Frisco Bowl Odds

According to WynnBet, San Diego State is a 3-point favorite. The over/under is set for 49.

2021 Frisco Bowl Prediction

San Diego State doesn’t do anything fancy. It runs the ball really well, plays solid defense and avoids mistakes.

Only twice during the season did starting quarterback Lucas Johnson throw more than 30 pass attempts and the Aztecs we’re 1-1 when that happened.

Behind running backs Greg and Chance Bell, San Diego State averages 176 on the ground and surrenders just 77 on defense. The Aztecs are 80th in scoring offense but 16th in scoring defense after allowing just 19 a game.

Cameron Thomas is a fearsome pass rusher and has 20 tackles for loss and 10 sacks for SDSU which forces 1.6 turnovers per game. The Aztecs also notched 38 sacks which is nearly three per game.

UTSA is also solid defensively and allows just 3.2 yards per rush. Frank Harris, the QB, has 25 touchdowns compared to five interceptions and Sincere McCormick was dominant on the ground with more than 1,400 yards. But he will skip the game which is a blow. However, there is other talent and UTSA is stellar at taking care of the ball.

It’s strength vs strength and that’s how it should be. This is a big-time game but I’m predicting a 24-20 win for the Aztecs.
