1. Will Johnson, five-star CB

The crown jewel of Michigan football’s 2022 recruiting class is five-star cornerback Will Johnson, who is the top player in the state for this class.

Just like Donovan Edwards in 2021, the Wolverines landed arguably their top overall target and Johnson sent the message that the best players from Michigan still go to Michigan.

While the Wolverines could have a lot of experience back next season with DJ Turner, Vincent Gray, and Gemon Green — depending on if they stay or go — don’t be shocked if Will Johnson is in the mix to start right away or at least play immediately.

There aren’t many 6-foot-3 cornerbacks who can do what Will Johnson can do. He’s elite in man coverage and that should allow him the chance to match up with elite receivers next year.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be shocked if he was the best defensive freshman in the Big Ten next season. That’s how good he is. He’s also enrolling early like the other two on this list.
