The Oklahoma Sooners (10-2) and the Oregon Ducks (10-3) are preparing to square off for the first time in 15 years when they take the field in the 2021 Alamo Bowl.
This is Oregon’s third time competing in this bowl, while it’ll be the first time Oklahoma has played in the San Antonio-based bowl.
We’re taking a look at three reasons why you should be tuning in to this exciting match-up featuring teams from the Pac 12 and the Big 12.
Can these teams function at a high level without their head coaches?
Two of the most publicized coaching exits from this year’s coaching carousel have been Lincoln Riley and Mario Cristobal.
Riley was the first major coach this season to abandon ship. He has departed Oklahoma for the sunny skies of the USC Trojans. The Sooners were forced to join the coaching search and landed on longtime Clemson defensive coordinator and former Oklahoma defensive coordinator Brent Venables.
Cristobal jumped ship to go to Miami where he played his college ball and had a previous coaching stint. He leaves Oregon after serving as the head coach from 2018-2021.
It will be interesting to see what these teams can do without the men who led these teams the last several years.
Oklahoma for its part will have a familiar face on the sidelines as Bob Stoops has agreed to serve as the interim head coach for the 2021 Alamo Bowl. Bryan McClendon will be the interim head coach for the Ducks.
