Ohio State football fell short of expectations in 2021, who are the early signees that can help get them back in the playoff in 2022?

For the high standard set at Ohio State, 2021 was a bit of a disappointing season. In a year where the Buckeyes were coming off an appearance in the national championship game, Ohio State could not solve its biggest issues.

While the offense was the nation’s best and most talented, the defense fell short in the biggest games. How does head coach Ryan Day plan to address those issues in 2022? Signing the fourth-rated recruiting class is certainly one way to help.

In two losses to Oregon and Michigan, the run defense really let the Buckeyes down. The defense as a whole was a big disappointment for Ohio State this season. It is the biggest reason why the Buckeyes are not in the playoff as well. Day is hoping to fix those issues and went out and got one of the best defensive coordinators in college football in Jim Knowles who was fantastic at Oklahoma State this past season and is a very aggressive defensive coordinator.

When looking at the Buckeyes recruiting class, it is easy to see where Day wanted to focus his efforts. Out of the 18 recruits that the Buckeyes have signed so far, eight of them are either wide receivers or defensive backs. Ohio State has had the most talented receiving room in the country in the past couple of seasons and that is not going to change anytime soon.

Ohio State is always expected to compete for Big Ten championships and top recruiting classes. Day has them doing both and this team should be back in the playoff soon.

Here are the three early signees that will make an instant impact at Ohio State in 2022.
