The first game of 2022 is the Outback Bowl pitting Penn State versus Arkansas football. Here are three reasons to watch the contest.

The Outback Bowl leads off 2022 and this year appears to be a solid matchup on paper at least. The 21st ranked Arkansas Razorbacks take on the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Recapping the Razorbacks season, they started hot out of the gate with wins over then-ranked Texas and Texas A&M. Then they went into a lull with three straight losses including being shut out by Georgia, a one-point loss to Ole Miss on a failed two-point conversion, and a two-score loss to Auburn.

Arkansas got back on the winning track to finish the season out, winning four out of their final five with the only loss in the stretch a close one at Alabama. Now the Razorbacks look to win their first bowl game since the 2015 season. In only his second season, coach Sam Pittman looks to have the Razorbacks on the right track.

Penn State got off to a 5-0 start to their season, with wins at Wisconsin and over Auburn at home. Then it came crashing down as the Nittany Lions lost five out of their final seven games, only beating Maryland and Rutgers in that stretch. They sure would love to finish the year on a high note with their second victory over an SEC team this season.

The winning team will mean a free appetizer if you dine at Outback Steakhouse the day after the game. Are you Team Bloomin Onion or Team Coconut Shrimp? Here are three other reasons to watch this year’s edition of the Outback Bowl.
