The transfer portal has been as wild as the coaching carousel. These five transfer quarterbacks are great fits at their new school.

We are in a new era of college football. With the one-time transfer rule and the transfer portal, players looking for an opportunity to start and programs looking to fill holes in their rosters are taking advantage of a culture of player movement.

Coaches taking over programs looking to rebuild can use the portal to fill holes in their roster early and allow their younger players to develop. Mel Tucker and the Michigan State Spartans are a perfect example of the masterful use of the transfer portal.

Most coaches leave room for transfers during recruiting, and it is the intelligent thing to do.

Players have benefitted from the portal as well. Alabama’s leading receiver, Jameison Williams, could not crack the starting lineup at Ohio State. Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III went from rotational back at Wake Forest to one of the best running backs in the country.

The flipside, however, is more players in the portal than spots for them to land. Some players go from the Power Five to the Group of Five. Still, others find themselves going from FBS to FCS and even Division II in some cases.

Everyone wants to know where the quarterbacks are going in the transfer portal era. Coaching, recruiting, and coordinator changes lead to quarterbacks playing elsewhere.

So, with the big moves already made, here are the top five quarterback moves from the college football transfer portal in 2022.
