3 Reasons Jim Harbaugh won’t leave Michigan Football for NFL
Despite some reported mutual interest between Jim Harbaugh and the NFL, here are three reasons why Harbaugh won’t be leaving Michigan football.
Just when you thought coaching carousel in college football had come to a halt, there was the bombshell report by Bruce Feldman of The Athletic on Tuesday that Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh could be tempted by a move to the NFL.
The rumored interest of NFL teams wanting to hire Jim Harbaugh as their head coach isn’t new, but the fact that he would be tempted to take a job with the Raiders or Bears would be.
While you can see his interest in Chicago, with it being in the Midwest and also, with Harbaugh having played for Chicago, but Las Vegas seems like the bigger threat. Harbaugh was close to Al Davis and the Raiders already have Derek Carr.
The Raiders are also certainly willing to pay top dollar for Harbaugh’s services. But would Harbaugh actually leave Michigan football this offseason? My gut says no and here are three reasons why.
‘This is just the beginning’
Those were the words Jim Harbaugh used after the win over Ohio State, the win over Iowa, and also the loss to Georgia. This season was the start of something, not the end.
Michigan football is losing talented players such as Aidan Hutchinson, David Ojabo, Hassan Haskins, and probably Daxton Hill, among others, but the Wolverines are still loaded with talent headed into next season.
Harbaugh has a great coaching staff in place and another talented freshman class that includes a slew of top-100 caliber talents and five-star cornerback Will Johnson.
Michigan also has not one, but two quarterbacks, capable of leading it to the promised land. Cade McNamara already led U-M to a Big Ten title and the future is even more bright for J.J. McCarthy who might be the quarterback talented enough to win it all at Michigan.
Yes, you can make the argument that Harbaugh could leave Michigan on top and that’s true. But this feels more like a ploy for leverage, although not entirely.
This leads to our next reason why he’ll be back.
