Some teams were cut slack for being relocated on short notice or stepping up to play unexpectedly, but there were several candidates that were absolutely deserving to be on this list.
I’ve boiled it down to the five most worthy, or, um— unworthy teams whose fanbase has to be wondering what’s next for their team.
Florida Gators embarrassed by ‘little brother’ in 2021 Gasparilla Bowl
The Florida Gators had never lost a game to the UCF Knights entering the Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa. The Gus Malzahn-led Knights went on a 20-7 run in the second half to pull off the upset over the SEC behemoths 29-17.
Florida quarterback Emory Jones, who announced he would be entering the transfer portal after the game, finished with 171 passing yards and 62 rushing yards.
This is going to be a complete rebuild for new incoming coach Billy Napier. Losing to a Group of Five team, no matter how many starters you may have been missing is inexcusable for an SEC team.
