Appalachian State blown out by WKU in the 2021 Boca Raton Bowl

For much of the season, Appalachian State looked like a team that you could make an argument for being ranked in the AP Top 25. The Mountaineers had a balanced attack on offense and a strong defense, but it was no match for Bailey Zappe and the WKU Hilltoppers.

App State was blown out 59-38 in the Boca Raton Bowl, allowing Zappe to break multiple records during the game. His six touchdowns and 422 passing yards enabled him to break the records for most passing yards in a single season (5,967 yards) and most passing touchdowns (62) in a single season.

Zappe broke the passing records by 134 yards and two touchdowns, respectively.

Notre Dame blew a massive lead in the 2021 Fiesta Bowl

The Fighting Irish did not put up much of a fight in the second half against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl. Despite being spotted a 28-7 lead with 1:16 left in the first half, Notre Dame lost 37-35.

The Cowboys went on a 30-7 run to end the game and complete an epic comeback against the Irish, spoiling new coach Marcus Freeman’s debut as head coach.

Give kudos to Freeman for coaching this game, not many would volunteer to step into a new gig with just a few weeks under his belt as the head coach. Notre Dame fans shouldn’t place too much blame on Freeman, even if it was embarrassing to blow such a big lead.
