Thompson is talented and dynamic

Nebraska football was one of the teams that needed a quarterback the most in the transfer portal and that worked in the Huskers favor.

Oklahoma was making a push for Thompson but the Sooners already had a transfer in Dillon Gabriel. Missouri, Indiana, and Oregon were some of the others but those programs also filled their needs at the quarterback position.

Thompson, the son of a Sooner and a former Longhorn, still had a solid option in Nebraska. The Huskers have been close and you could argue, despite the productivity of Adrian Martinez, the quarterback position is what has held them back.

Whipple has a lot of pull on the recruiting trail right now after helping Kenny Pickett put together such a great season and all of that led to Thompson’s decision.

But the fact that he’s a four-star talent and a proven commodity is perfect for this scenario and as we’ve seen numerous times over the years, a difference at quarterback can make a huge difference in the win column.

And if you aren’t that excited about Thompson as a Nebraska football fan, consider this: He threw for 300 yards and at least five touchdowns in three separate games last season. That’s the kind of production Nebraska has needed at QB and hasn’t gotten.
