5. Sevion Morrison: from Nebraska to Kansas

The transfer portal is built for programs like Kansas. Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks do not have a natural recruiting base and have been a doormat since Mark Mangino was fired amid controversy. Leipold built the Buffalo Bulls program; Leipold wants Kansas to be physical up front to run the football.

At Buffalo, Leipold had Jarrett Patterson and Kevin Marks running the football. Devin Neal had a solid season in Lawrence, but Leipold likes a two-back system. Enter Nebraska transfer, Sevion Morrison.

The Jayhawks are gambling on Morrison’s potential as he played sparingly last season with only 30 carries. Morrison was a four-star prospect who broke Oklahoma legend Spencer Tillman’s high school records.

Morrison has ideal size at around 6-foot and 200 pounds. The Tulsa native is a great cutback runner who showed versatility as a receiver while in high school. What Morrison brings to Lawrence is the big-play ability, something that has been sorely lacking there.

Athletically, Morrison is an upgrade at running back. Leipold and the Jayhawks need to see Morrison stay healthy and put it all together. He will have every opportunity to do so as part of a solid transfer class.
