Oregon Football: Way-too-early game-by-game predictions for 2022
This is going to be the second tough non-conference game for Oregon to open their season with. After falling to Georgia, the Ducks are going to have a home date with BYU, which is returning a lot of starters from a really good team in 2021. The Cougars are going to be losing Tyler Allgeier, who was one of the best running backs in the country, but their offense should be fine. It is the defense that is going to need to be fixed the most.
While the game is in Eugene, BYU has a real shot at the upset here. Oregon is going to be replacing a lot of key players from a season ago and doing it with a new head coach. With the experience that BYU is going to have and the game being in only the third week of the season, the Cougars are going into Autzen Stadium and pulling off an upset over the Ducks.
Final Score: Oregon 31, BYU 34 (1-2)
After losing a home game to BYU, Oregon has to go on the road to open up PAC-12 play against the Washington State Cougars. Washington State had one of the more turbulent seasons of anyone in 2021. Their former head coach Nick Rolovich was fired for failing to comply with the state’s vaccine mandate and it seemed like the Cougars season was all but doomed.
However, interim head coach Jake Dickert guided Washington State to a bowl game and then landed the head coaching job permanently.
While Dickert did a solid job in getting the Cougars to where they needed to be in 2021, it will be yet another challenge to do it again. The Ducks are the more talented team and will leave Pullman with a win.
Final Score: Oregon 42, Washington State 27 (2-2, 1-0 Pac-12)
