Kentucky Football: Way-Too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions
By Kathryn Rose
In the last game before a bye, Mississippi State comes to Lexington next. Mississippi State won 31-17 last year in a game where Kentucky only managed 216 total yards, while the Bulldogs gained 438. Inconsistency, especially in the last part of the season, gave Mississippi State headaches, and it doesn’t look to be that much better this year. This is a definite trip-up game, but in the end, the Cats get a gruesome victory.
Final score: Kentucky 13, Mississippi State 10 (Kentucky goes to 6-1, 3-1 in conference)
And then, there was hated rival Tennessee. Last year’s game between the Vols and Wildcats was a 45-42 affair in which Tennessee won despite only possessing the ball for 15 minutes. This is another high-tempo team, but Kentucky almost did outgun them, with only a key Will Levis interception tripping them up. Tennessee loses a few guys, including Velus Jones and Alontae Taylor, but the game is in Knoxville and Hendon Hooker, who is the perfect signal-caller for that offense, is back for another year. Look for the Vols to frustrate the Cats again.
Final score: Tennessee 41, Kentucky 34 (Kentucky goes to 6-2, 3-2 in conference)
