College football’s 2022 National Signing Day is here and you can follow all of the action here with our signing day tracker.
There are few days more exciting in college football than National Signing Day. Yes, some of the luster has been taken away due to the early signing period but there are plenty of big-time recruits making their college decisions starting Wednesday.
It’s important to remember that Wednesday is just the opening of the late signing period for college football recruiting. Some top recruits are still going to wait to decide such as five-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr., who isn’t expected to sign until March.
However, with five-star recruits still on the board such as Harold Perkins, Shemar Stewart, Devon Campbell, and Jacoby Mathews, there is plenty at stake. There are also numerous four-star prospects and late-rising three stars that will find homes today.
Here’s a look at some of the key decision times for recruits via On3.com, as well as a look at each of the big commitments/signings on college football’s 2022 National Signing Day.
Signings/commitments
3-star OL Jalen Farmer commits to Florida
In the first announcement of the day, Billy Napier and the Gators start off strong landing 6-foot-2, 325-pounder who has been committed. Alabama was making a push but Farmer is sticking with Florida on what could be a busy day.
4-star OL Deshawn Woods flips to Wyoming
Out of Omaha, Nebraska, Deshawn Woods was a long-time commit to Missouri but he didn’t sign in the early period, and on Wednesday, after being offered by Wyoming last week, he finished his commitment and signed with the Cowboys.
4-star RB Ajay Allen Jr. chooses Nebraska
Nebraska’s hot run on the recruiting trail continues as they complete the flip of the four-star running back formerly committed to TCU. And if things go as planned, it won’t be the final four-star addition of the day.
4-star WR Stephon Johnson to Oklahoma State
Stephon Johnson was previously committed to Oregon but re-opened his recruitment in January and Oklahoma State beat out some local schools to win his signature on Wednesday, which is a nice late addition for Mike Gundy and crew.
4-star DL Caden Story to Clemson
National Signing Day is expected to be good to the Clemson Tigers and they finished off the flipping of Caden Story, formerly an Auburn pledge. Clemson has been trending but got the official word. Now, the Tigers are moving closer to having a top-10 recruiting class.
4-star DT Christen Miller to Georgia
The defending national champions added the commitment of Christen Miller on National Signing Day. Miami and others were making a push for the 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive tackle ranked 109th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings. Georgia also signed Dillon Bell a three-star wideout who can also play RB.
4-star RB Jordan James flips from Georgia to Oregon
At one time, Jordan James was committed to Georgia but the Bulldogs started to fall off in this recruitment, and former DC Dan Lanning, now the head coach, helped land a highly-touted runner, which should be just the start of a good day for the Ducks.
4-star WR Janiran Bonner flips from Georgia Tech to Nebraska
The Nebraska recruiting class is getting a real boost in the late period. The Huskers added a four-star running back earlier on National Signing Day and now, have added a four-star wideout Janiran Bonner (329th overall) to their haul after he flipped from Georgia Tech. Scott Frost’s new hires have given this program some momentum. Now, it needs a winning season.
4-star RB TreVonte Citizen chooses Miami over Florida, LSU
In one of the first crystal ball upsets of the day, four-star running back TreVonte Citizen just signed with Miami football over Florida, who was trending with crystal ball projections last night and today. Citizen is a huge get for Mario Cristobal and is ranked as the No. 106 overall recruit in the 247 sports composite rankings. The Hurricanes get an elite playmaker and college football fans get a reminder that the National Signing Day still has juice.
3-star RB Andrew Paul to Georgia
There was a heated battle going on for three-star running back Andrew Paul and despite some late momentum in the direction of Clemson, Andrew Paul is headed to Georgia. It helps make up for James going to Oregon and probably had something to do with that. Michigan was also heavily involved before ya know, Jim Harbaugh rumors ended their hopes in just about any recruitment.
5-star Shemar Stewart sticks with Texas A&M
Miami made a strong push for one of the elite recruits in the 2022 class but the Aggies held serve after wining his commitment previously. This now guarantees Texas A&M will have the highest-rated class ever according to the 247 sports composite rankings.
4-star EDGE R Mason Thomas flips from Iowa State to Oklahoma
Chalk this up to one where you don’t necessarily believe what a recruit says until they put pen to paper. Thomas told Iowa State his commitment was solid but it turned out to be a big win for the Sooners.
4-star DL Ahmad Moten to Miami
Another solid addition on the defensive front for Mario Cristobal who adds his third four-star signing of the day.
5-star LB Harold Perkins to LSU
Texas A&M had his commitment earlier in this cycle but Brian Kelly and the Tigers made a strong push late and got the final visit, which enabled them to land Perkins, a big-time get on National Signing Day.
5-star OL Devon Campbell to Texas
Texas wasn’t as busy on National Signing Day as it was during the early signing period but the addition of Campbell to a top-five class will do just fine for the Horns.
4-star OL Dave Iuli
Another big win on the recruiting trail for Dan Lanning as four-star offensive lineman Dave Iuli committed to Oregon despite some believing he was going to go to Miami just a few days ago and the trend was in that direction. Yet, the 6-foot-4, 330-pounder out of the state of Washington stayed in the Northwest.
5-star DB Jacoby Mathews to Texas A&M
In the final big decision on National Signing Day, Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies ended in fitting fashion by landing five-star defensive back Jacoby Mathews. Out of the state of Louisiana, he was trending for LSU just days ago, but the Aggies flipped the script and just like they did with Stewart, landed a five-star recruit with massive potential.
