LSU Football: Way-too-Early Game-by-Game Predictions for 2022

After an eventful offseason, LSU Football is hoping new head coach Brian Kelly can get the program back to national championship contention

When the LSU football job came open, it was widely regarded as the best job available. However, it seemed that the Tigers swung and missed on a couple of their top candidates such as Jimbo Fisher and Lincoln Riley, and LSU football fans were left wondering who their next coach might be. Athletic director Scott Woodward finally landed a big-time coach by hiring Brian Kely away from Notre Dame.

Kelly has been one of the most successful head coaches of the past decade while at Notre Dame. He led the Fighting Irish to the national championship game in 2012 and playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020. While his dancing in recruiting videos and southern accents have gotten a fair share of attention in his short time at LSU, Kelly has put together a great staff.

LSU has hit the transfer portal as hard as any other program in the country. They have upgraded across the lines of scrimmage and are bringing in a good batch of recruits to help this season. The quarterback position is going to make a lot of the headlines this offseason.

Myles Brennan decided to return and he will compete with Garrett Nussmeir and incoming freshman Walker Howard for the starting job. Brennan has the experience edge, but the other two quarterbacks do offer a potentially higher ceiling. While a playoff appearance might not be in the cards for this season, it seems as if Kelly is going to have things going in Baton Rouge for the future.
