College football going overseas has become more common in recent years. These are the three best college football games ever that happened overseas.

This week, the NFL came out with a new slate of international games, expanding their footprint to include Germany. College football will play yet another game in Dublin this year. What’s supposed to be an American-only creation is fast spreading across the globe.

Until a little over a decade ago, the professional game relied on preseason games to give them enough international exposure. The obvious – and correct – complaint was that those games between players who may never play a snap of meaningful football were almost always very bad.

Of course, the NFL learned there was more money to be made by putting regular-season games on showcase, rather than those preseason contests. College football saw the money train rolling in as well, and now there are usually one or two games a year played outside the United States. Some of them are well-played contests. Penn State’s 26-24 win over UCF in Croke Park, Dublin, in 2014 was a proper introduction to American football for any Irish newcomers.

But, there have been some major clunkers, too. Stanford’s 62-7 demolition of Rice in Sydney in 2017 left quite a bad impression on the people of New South Wales.

With college football’s rarity of international games compared to the pros, narrowing down the quality contests becomes far easier.

These are the three best overseas college football games of all time.
