Tight End

Starter: Michael Mayer

Backup: George Takacs

The best player on offense for Notre Dame is Michael Mayer, who will be starting again at tight end this fall for the Fighting Irish.

Mayer is the best tight end in the country and should be on NFL scouts’ radar as a first-round pick in 2023. Mayer can do it all and is an effective receiver over the middle of the field. He can block and seal the edge for the running backs and that is a skill that not a lot of college tight ends can master.

Backing up Mayer for another season is George Takacs. Takacs is used more in the running game as a blocker but has been known to catch the occasional pass. This position is already set and Notre Dame has one of the best tight end rooms in the country just because they have Mayer.
