Clemson Football: 2022 Way-Too-Early Game Predictions

What a strange year 2021 turned out to be for Clemson football. From the opening game, the Tigers were never ready to assume their now-default role as the ACC’s national title contender.

Of course, the big problem was the offense for Clemson football. It never clicked at all most games, and D.J. Uiagalelei was always a few beats out of rhythm with his receivers. From Dr. Pepper ads to a benching in the game against Pitt, it was a major fall from grace.

Yet, this team did win 10 games, and a large chunk of it is due to the defense firing on all cylinders. Getting Bryan Bresee back after a season-ending injury is huge, but so too is having both your first-team all-conference corners come back. As if the defense needed more help, two all-ACC guys are back on the defensive line too.

Unfortunately, Clemson football will be without Brent Venables, who leaves for Oklahoma to be the Sooners head coach. Good news though, offensive coordinator Tony Elliott also left for a head coaching job, this time to Virginia.

The coaches’ succeeding them are internal hires, as Clemson likes to do. Brandon Streeter, who was the passing game coordinator last year, is the new offensive coordinator. On defense, it’s first-time coordinator Wes Goodwin. Streeter is a Clemson alum, and Goodwin has been on Dabo Swinney’s staff since 2009.

This family concept at Clemson is going to be tested in a big way this year. We’ll see how the Tigers can make out.
