Outmatched by Florida and Alabama in 2020. National champions in 2021. That’s the Georgia football story from last season.

It felt like manna from heaven for Dawg fans when the clock hit zero on Jan. 10. After 41 years, Georgia football had finally reached the mountaintop.

Kirby Smart led a generation-defining defense that crushed almost every team they played. It also helped that their sawed-off quarterback decided to step up, and play like a title-winning signal caller should.

Indeed, Stetson Bennett wrestled a job that looked preordained for JT Daniels, and had his breakout season as a 24-year old. Bennett somehow still has eligibility, and will be back in 2022.

Bennett’s top target last year was Brock Bowers – who was a true freshman tight end that made all-America – a sublime pass catcher who made defenses look foolish.

Jalen Carter found a place to step up too, despite playing with Jordan Davis on the defensive front. Carter will be a top 2023 draft prospect, but for now, he’s just going to rip past every offensive lineman he sees.

This year’s Georgia team has numerous pieces to replace. Yet, as always, there’s a new crop of guys ready to step up.

These are the three players most likely to breakout for the Dawgs in 2022.
