5. USC Trojans

You might be shocked to see USC on this list because the Trojans haven’t won more than eight games since 2017, but the changes happening in Los Angeles have been nothing but positive.

Despite losing both Jaxson Dart and Kedon Slovis to the transfer portal and since to Ole Miss and Pitt, respectively, the Trojans are trending in the right direction because of the coaching change. Gone is Clay Helton and in comes Lincoln Riley who led Oklahoma to numerous playoff berths and Big 12 titles after replacing Bob Stoops in Norman.

Coming with Riley to Los Angeles is former five-star quarterback Caleb Williams who took over for Spencer Rattler in 2021 after his struggles. He looked like a serious Heisman contender and will be just that with the Trojans. He’ll be the starter from day one.

Sometimes all you need to jumpstart a program is an elite quarterback. Clemson got that with Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence and Oklahoma got it with Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray. USC will have a chance to join that mix with Williams.

Recruiting is going to improve drastically under Riley and the Trojans could get back to the glory days once again and dominate the Pac-12.
