Texas A&M Football: Way-too-early 2022 depth chart projection
After bringing in the most talented recruiting class of all time, expectations are high. What will Texas A&M football’s depth chart look like in 2022?
After going 11-1 and nearly making the College Football Playoff in 2020, Texas A&M came into last season ranked in the top-10 and thought to contend again. While the Aggies did manage to beat Alabama for the first time since 2012, the rest of the season did not go as planned.
Quarterback Haynes King was injured at the beginning of the season and never returned. His backup, Zach Calzada, did lead the team to the victory over the Crimson Tide but was below average otherwise.
Now, Calzada has transferred to Auburn and King is back from injury. Texas A&M also just signed the most talented recruiting class of all time. This is going to add pressure to win for head coach Jimbo Fisher. When Fisher came over from Florida State and took the giant contract, there was pressure, now it is at an even higher level.
While this new freshman class is extraordinary, they are freshmen and there will be growing pains. The Aggies are losing several big-time players to the NFL draft. Running back Isaiah Spiller, tight end Jalen Wydermyer, offensive linemen Kenyon Green, and the entire defensive line are going to be missing, not to mention some key members of the secondary. That is a lot of production to replace. Defensive coordinator Mike Elko also left to be the head coach at Duke and was replaced by DJ Durkin.
There are national championship expectations at A&M now that they are recruiting on the level of Alabama and Georgia. The schedule is tough this season and there are plenty of depth chart choices up for grabs.
Here is the way-too-early look at Texas A&M’s depth chart heading into 2022.
