North Carolina A&T football move conferences for the second time in two years. Football will move to the Colonial Athletic Association in 2023.

On Feb. 18, the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Board of Trustees unanimously approved a recommendation to switch conference affiliation from the Big South Conference to the Colonial Athletic Association. The CAA is arguably the premier athletics conference in FCS.

The Colonial features prominent FCS schools like James Madison University, Towson University, and The University of Delaware. This move is the second in as many years for the Aggies after moving from the MEAC to the Big South Conference just one year ago.

Most sports will transition from the Big South to the CAA beginning in 2022. Football joins in 2023 with bowling continuing its affiliation with the MEAC (bowling stayed in the MEAC after the Big South move).

North Carolina A&T is not the only university headed to the Colonial. Stony Brook University and Monmouth University join this July, and fellow HBCU Hampton University announced their move, also from the Big South, before A&T.
