There are many prospects from HBCU football on the NFL’s radar. These five prospects should have their names called during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Any young man growing up playing football dreams of hearing his name called during the NFL Draft. Over seven rounds, players will hear their name called. Few of those names called are from small schools, even fewer from HBCU football.

Last season there were no players from HBCUs drafted. Much of that was due to the HBCU combine and Legacy Bowl cancelations because of the pandemic. This season both the combine and Legacy Bowl proceeded as scheduled.

Many players from HBCUs were invited to both the combine and the game. The Legacy Bowl allowed players to practice in front of scouts from the NFL, Canadian Football League, and USFL.

Many players who had these experiences receive invitations for the NFL Combine.

These opportunities help remove barriers for players who might not get scouted or not have a pro day on their campuses. There are decades of evidence (much of which resides in Canton, Ohio) that where a player went to school is not an indicator of their ability to play professional football.

Simply put, if you can ball, you can ball.

Of the players who took part in the postseason All-Star circuit, these five HBCU football players should expect to hear their names in the 2022 NFL Draft.
