North Carolina football did not live up to expectations in 2021 and will need some new players to emerge. Who are the breakout players of the team in 2022?

Despite being one of the most talked-about teams heading into the 2021 season, North Carolina football was not able to meet expectations. The team did not make the ACC title game and they certainly were not a darkhorse playoff contender. Now, North Carolina is going to have to reload a bit and find some impact players to take over some key spots.

Under Mack Brown in his second tenure as the Tar Heels head coach, North Carolina has been able to step up its recruiting. North Carolina has finished as one of the top recruiting teams in the ACC and that has the team hoping that it can reload instead of having to take on a multi-year rebuild.

There are going to be some big shoes left to fill on spots on the North Carolina team. At quarterback, Sam Howell is gone and the Tar Heels are going to have to replace one of the best quarterbacks in school history. Ty Chandler is gone at running back and he was one of the best overall players for the team last season.

These guys are not going to be easy to replace, but if North Carolina can, then maybe it can finally have that big breakout season and compete for the ACC title. There are several guys that are candidates to be breakout stars, but we are only choosing three here.

Here are the top three breakout candidates for North Carolina football in 2022.
