North Carolina has been blessed with great running backs in the past couple of seasons.

In 2020, the team had two NFL running backs in Javonte Williams and Michael Carter, and then with Ty Chandler this past season. With Chandler now off to the NFL, the Tar Heels are going to need someone to step up at running back. The guy that I think is most capable of doing that is true freshman running back George Pettaway.

It is tough for a true freshman to get on the field as a running back, but it is going to be hard to keep Pettaway off the field. He has good speed and size at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, and runs with vision.

With the Tar Heels missing their top two runners from last year’s team, Pettaway is going to have a great chance to be a breakout candidate for North Carolina football in 2022.
