3. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma and Notre Dame are two historic programs and it’s surprising to know that they’ve only met 10 times ever. The last meeting came in 2013 on the back-end of a home-and-home in South Bend as the Sooners beat Notre Dame after losing in Norman the year prior. Notre Dame leads the all-time series 8-2.

Before that home-and-home series, the Irish and Sooners had met just one time since 1968 and that just seems like a disservice to college football fans.

Notre Dame is a program on the rise under a new coach and so is Oklahoma. Both teams have made multiple playoffs over the years and they are headed in similar directions under brand new head coaches. It would be interesting to see how they would fare against each other.

While there’s no feel of a rivalry or anything here, it would be a fun matchup to witness as the Sooners are arguably the class of the Big 12 — until their move to the SEC — and Notre Dame wants to prove it can hang with college football’s elite.

Mutually-beneficial matchup here.
