There are some perennial college football powerhouses such as Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Ohio State, but which programs will be next?

Every year, college football sees the usual suspects battling it out for a national title.

Alabama makes the playoff more often than not and the same can be said for Clemson, Ohio State, and now Georgia. Even Oklahoma has to be considered a national power every year because of the multiple playoff appearances as well as Notre Dame despite both struggling when they make the field of four.

It’s hard to imagine college football without these teams at the top of the rankings every year but there are always new teams that join the mix of national powers.

Heck, Dabo Swinney took over at Clemson and turned the Tigers from a verb (“Clemsoning” was not a good thing) into perennial national title contenders. Kirby Smart transformed Georgia from “so close yet so far” into national champs in 2021, ending a lengthy drought.

There are some teams on the verge of being the next powerhouses and we saw steps in the right direction in 2021.

These five programs will be the next to join the ranks of the perennial powers.
