Secondary

Starting cornerbacks: Jason Marshall Jr., Avery Helm
Backup: Jaydon Hill and Ethan Pouncey

Starting safeties: Rashad Torrence, Trey Dean III
Backups: Donovan McMillon, Mordecai McDaniel

Starting Star: Tre’Vez Johnson
Backup: Jadarrius Perkins

This is the most experienced unit on the 2022 Florida defense. While starting cornerback Kaiir Elam is gone to the NFL, there is a good mixture of talent and experience that is back for the Gators in the secondary.

Jason Marshall Jr. and Avery Helm are both back at corner. Marshall might be the most talented of the two and was a five-star recruit in 2021. Helm was a starter last season and Florida is glad to see him returning.

At safety, Rashad Torrence and Trey Dean III are back for another season as the starters. These two guys will give some of Florida’s talented young guys at safety a chance to sit and learn this season. Tre’Vez Johnson is back to start at the star position.

Two guys to keep an eye on in the spring at safety are Kamari Wilson and Devin Moore. Wilson was one of the top safeties in this year’s class and a great steal for Napier and his staff.
