As with everything else, the headlines go to power conference programs in recruiting. But, there are always future superstars lurking in the Group of Five ranks, too.

Much like the power conferences, the big hitters in mid-major college football recruiting congregate around the programs with proven histories and track records of success. There are a few surprises, though, and a lot of these players are blue-chippers who turned down serious blue-blood offers.

Here’s the 10 Group of Five signees to know about in the 2022 college football recruiting class.

No, really, a punter makes this list. But, Evan Crenshaw is no ordinary punter.

For most of this recruiting cycle, he was the top recruit in the entire country at punter. He went from a kid averaging 32.2 yards per punt in his junior year, to bombing 50+ yard punts at will in camp during his senior year.

That kind of leg earned him a trip to the All-American Bowl this year, and he’ll be a freshman year starter for Coastal.

Quan Lee decommitted from Miami last June and signed with UCF this December.

While he lined up on the outside in high school, his 6-foot, 175-pound frame means he’ll line up in the slot in college. Lee is a four-star in the 247 composite rankings and shows good hands and decent speed for Gus Malzahn’s offense.
