3 Reasons Max Johnson will be Texas A&M Football’s QB1
Johnson is no slouch
Experience does matter but it’s not everything, otherwise, Texas A&M football would have just held onto Calzada and let him enter the season as the favorite to start.
Johnson probably wasn’t as good as his 28 touchdown passes last season suggest but he played on a really poor LSU team that didn’t have anything resembling a consistent running game. The offensive line also struggled and his receivers were impacted by injuries.
Yet, Johnson was still productive and beat some ranked teams last season. The Tigers knocked off both Florida and Texas A&M, a game in which Johnson threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns.
The former 4-star quarterback who was ranked as the No. 10 pro-rated passer in the 2020 recruiting class, had five games with at least 300 yards passing last season and six games with at least three scores and eight total with multiple TD passes.
Johnson also didn’t have a game with multiple interceptions. Again, he’s not perfect but with all of the talent surrounding him at Texas A&M, Johnson is more than capable of leading the Aggies to double-digit wins.
