Arkansas State and Memphis have a long-standing rivalry that gets renewed, but not under equal circumstances at all.

Butch Jones enters his second year with the squad, after a 2-10 mark in year one. Due to transfers, Arkansas State spent a lot of their year rebuilding, trying to find anything that worked. It rarely did.

Another significant rebuilding year looks near. The offense will have what little they did produce back for another year, but the defense loses most of its key pieces.

Memphis should roll.

Final score: Memphis 45, Arkansas State 24 (Memphis 2-1, 1-0 in AAC)

September 24. Memphis, TN. North Texas Mean Green. player. 2388. Scouting Report. 4. Pick Analysis

Under head coach Seth Littrell, North Texas has been treading water. Yet, they were drowning during the first two months of the year, starting 1-6 in 2021. The campaign ended with five straight wins and a bowl bid, which was a huge bounce back.

There’s little cause for optimism for the Mean Green in 2022. Most defensive contributors are gone, though star linebacker KD Davis remains. On offense, 1,215-yard rusher DeShawn Torrey is gone as well.

Memphis wakes up from September with three wins.

Final score: Memphis 34, North Texas 17 (Memphis 3-1, 1-0 in AAC)
