Quarterback

Starter: Dillon Gabriel

Backup: Nick Evers

While Williams did leave a void at the quarterback position, it did not take long for the Sooners to fill it with one of the best in college football. Dillon Gabriel is coming over from UCF and he has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country for the past couple of seasons. Gabriel had his 2021 season cut short with a shoulder injury and did not seem to be a fit in Gus Malzahn’s offense anyway.

The key thing for Gabriel is that he is going to be reuniting with Lebby as his offensive coordinator. Lebby was the offensive coordinator at UCF with Gabriel one season and knows how talented of a thrower he is. Oklahoma is going to be taking a lot of shots down the field using Gabriel’s arm and he has one of the strongest in the country.

Backing up Gabriel is likely to be freshman quarterback Nick Evers. Evers is talented but has no experience. If Evers does not seem ready to be the backup in the spring, Oklahoma football might need to look to the portal for a backup quarterback.
