Nebraska football has a few key pieces to replace on defense and one is JoJo Domann who was a valuable piece for the Huskers’ defense the past few seasons because of his versatility.

That’s something that defensive coordinator Erik Chinander values and that’s one reason why another name you should keep an eye on heading into the 2022 season is that of defender Javin Wright.

Wright was a three-star recruit out of high school and started as a cornerback. He’s now listed as a safety at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds. He was expected to make an impact last season but was sidelined due to blood clots.

Yet, he’s been practicing and he could fill time at a couple of spots. Like Domann, he’s long and athletic and he’s got the ability to cover. He’s also not afraid to tackle. Wright is capable of having multiple roles in the sub-package defenses such as a defensive back or even as a nickel linebacker.

In today’s game, you can’t have enough guys who can cover, run and tackle. Wright can do all of those things and while Nebraska football will certainly use him on special teams, don’t be surprised if he turns into a productive defender for the Huskers in 2022 as well.
