Projected Washington starting QB: Michael Penix Jr.

This is going to be one of the interesting quarterback battles heading into the 2022 college football season simply because it feels like all three guys have an equal shot to win it.

Dylan Morris, Michael Penix Jr. (an Indiana transfer), and Sam Huard were all highly-touted recruits but all three quarterbacks struggled last season. Huard only started one game but threw four picks in the Apple Cup, while Morris threw 12 interceptions and just 14 touchdowns.

Penix Jr. was limited to just five games and his biggest issue is staying healthy. Yet, in the two previous seasons, Penix Jr. threw a combined 24 touchdown passes compared to just eight interceptions and in 2020, he completed 68 percent of his throws.

Penix Jr. is talented but has never played more than six games in a season. He’s been dynamic and he could help turn the Huskies around immediately, which is why I think he will win the job. It’s just a matter of him staying healthy enough to keep it.
