South Carolina Football: Way-too-Early Projected 2022 Depth Chart
South Carolina Football is looking to have another surprising season in Shane Beamer’s second year as head coach. What will the Gamecocks depth chart look like in 2022?
When teams overachieve when expectations are low, they can get too much hype heading into the next season. The team might be better on paper, but the record might not necessarily reflect any improvement. That is what Beamer is going to be fighting in his second season in Columbia.
South Carolina Football was thought to be in for one of the worst seasons in school history heading into last season, but they turned it into seven victories and a win in their bowl game. They did so with the worst passing attack in the SEC and a roster that does not have a lot of talent. Beamer made upgrades in both areas this offseason, hoping that South Carolina can keep the momentum going. ‘
It is safe to say that South Carolina might have had the worst quarterback play in the power five last season. The Gamecocks made one of the biggest splashes this offseason in the transfer portal by bringing in former-five star quarterback Spencer Rattler from Oklahoma.
Rattler has familiarity with Beamer from when Beamer was on the coaching staff at Oklahoma and that could mean a seamless transition for both of them.
South Carolina football did have some guys leave for the NFL and this roster is still undergoing a makeover. There is reason to be optimistic about the future of the program, but expectations should be tempered still. Keep an eye on key position battles this spring that will affect the depth chart.
