5 former college football powerhouses that could be “back” in 2022
4. Miami Hurricanes (2021 record: 7-5)
Remember when Miami was the coolest team in college football in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s? The Hurricanes were everyone’s favorite team to watch because they were just that exciting and they played with swagger. That hasn’t been the case consistently in years.
This program has been lacking that swagger, so what did it do? It went out and hired a former player who helped the Hurricanes win two national titles back in 1989 and 1991: Mario Cristobal.
Miami desperately needs that swagger back and Cristobal can bring it. Bringing him back as head coach after succeeding at Oregon was a good move by the university and it was clear that Manny Diaz just didn’t have “it” anymore.
The Hurricanes went just 7-5 in Diaz’s last season in 2021 but they picked up steam in the second half of the year. They bring back some serious talent as well as bringing in the No. 15 recruiting class in the country and six important transfers.
Miami has the talent to compete for ACC supremacy this coming season and it finally has the head coach to lead it there.
