3. Texas Longhorns (2021 record: 5-7)

“We’re baaaaaaack.”

Those words still sting the ears of Texas football fans as they watched Sam Ehlinger give the entire nation the perfect soundbite for which to troll when the Longhorns struggle. That phrase will haunt Texas until it is, in fact, back.

That could be 2022 under Steve Sarkisian actually.

Sarkisian doesn’t exactly have a sparkling track record as a head coach, but he got to spend the five previous seasons before getting hired at Texas both in the NFL and learning under Nick Saban at Alabama. He got to join Saban’s reinvention program where he takes broken-down former head coaches and molds them back into “good as new” status.

The Longhorns went just 5-7 in Sarkisian’s first season, but it was a rebuilding year and he stockpiled talent this offseason to the point that anything less than 8-9 wins would be a massive disappointment.

Bijan Robinson is back as a Heisman contender, Quinn Ewers transferred in to start at quarterback, and the Longhorns bring in the No. 5 recruiting class in the country.

Yeah, this team should be really good.
