Nebraska football needs to get back on the winning track and here are three storylines to follow in the spring of 2022 for the Huskers.

The Huskers are one of the teams that have started taking part in spring football and during his run as Nebraska football head coach, Scott Frost has probably never faced a spring more important than this one.

If Frost didn’t have such a large buyout, he might have lost his job already. Instead, he’s gotten another opportunity and after some shrewd hires, at least hopefully, Nebraska football seems poised to finally put together a winning record.

Yet, we’ve heard that before under Frost haven’t we? Will Frost finally deliver at least a bowl game for Nebraska football fans?

With that in mind, here are three storylines for the Huskers this spring.

Finding a new QB

After four years, Adrian Martinez entered the transfer portal and it was probably a good thing for both sides. Martinez was productive for the Huskers, but things seemed to always fall apart at the end of games.

Now, Casey Thompson and Chubba Purdy, two transfers, along with Logan Smothers, who started the Iowa game, are battling it out for the job and Thompson certainly feels like the leader.

New offensive coordinator Mark Whipple was recruiting Purdy before he even came to Nebraska and while he was still at Pitt. Mickey Joseph also was working on Thompson. Both quarterbacks have talent and Smothers showed some things too late season before some late mistakes.

I expect Thompson to win the job, but Nebraska actually has some depth at quarterback and Purdy is good enough to keep things interesting heading into the fall.
